Carrier Oil

Many of these carrier oils are also used in food or cooking. So my thoughts are if you can eat them you can spread them all over your body. These are the first ingredients you should look for when making homemade skin care. From using them on their own to your first steps in making lip balms, bath oils, body butters, and massage oils. If I had to pick only 3 oils for making homemade skin care recipes thay would be, Sweet Almond, Jojoba and Grape Seed would be my choice.

The heavier carrier oils will be used in making natural skin care massage oils and extra moisturizing body butters.
Medium weight oils are used in your lip balms as well in body butters.
The light weight oils are good for making homemade skin care recipes for bath oils and perfumes.

Carrier oil
Carrier oil, also known as base oil or vegetable oil, is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes before they are applied to the skin. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils do not contain a concentrated aroma, unlike essential oils, nor do they evaporate like them. There are a range of different carrier oils each with their own individual properties and suitability towards different treatments in aromatherapy. Infused oils are a combination of carrier oils and various herbs.

True carrier oils are generally cold-pressed vegetable oils taken, amongst others for natural skin care:

Almond, Sweet Oil

My first carrier oil and I still use it the most today.
This is one of the most useful, practical, and comonly used oils. It is great for all skin types as an acting emollient and is best known for its ability to soften, soothe, and re-condition the skin. It is truly marvelous as a carrier oil and is equally superb for addition to body care products. Natural expeller pressed oil from raw almond kernels and exceptionally rich in fatty acids.

Avocado oil

A member of the laurel famely native to Central and South America, avocados and there oil are used by indigenous woman as a moisturizer. The rich, heavy is also an excellent sunblock. The fleshy green fruits are full of vitamins A and B, and lecithin, a protein with antioxidant properties that nourishes delicate skin and hair.

Sweet Almond

Used in most natural skin care recipes has large molecules in this carrier oil making it a heavier oil best suited for heavy massage or for a very moisturizing cream or salve. Sweet almond oil contains vitamins A, B1, B2 and B6 and a small amount of E. Protects and nourishes the skin.

Jojoba

Native Americans have used jojoba for hundreds of years. Jojoba is not an oil, but a liquid wax; excellent choice for many aromatherapy uses. Most often used as the carrier oil of choice to use with essential oils. A must in all your natural skin care cream and lotion recipes. It is very stable, having extremely good keeping qualities. Useful oil in cases of acne.

Jojoba, Golden Organic

Choose this Jojoba for heavier creams, soap making and when you want extra moisturizing. Less refined, it retains more vitamins and minerals than the refined. Not quite as stable. Jojoba contains myristic acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive Oi

l
Variously a symbol of peace, purity, and victory, the olive and its products sustained much of the ancient Western world. The Mediterranean diet that relies on olive oil instead of butter is associated with a lowered rate of heart disease. Also rich in Vitamin E, olive oil is a soothing skin moisturizer with healing properties. You want to get oil marked "extra virgin" since this has the lowest acidity and therefore bettermatched to skin pH.

With a 30% UV block I use it in my lip balms. Rich in vitamins and minerals, its vitamin E and eseamol content gives the oil excellent stability. Beneficial for dry skin. Also makes for a great massage oil.

Very light weight oil-great for bath oil's. Also excellent in lotions, as this oil is most readily absorbed into the skin. Not suitable for massage due to absorption rate.

Athlete's Foot
